Trash Day
music by J. R. Rothrock
Sometimes you sit down in the studio with the intent of just "working out"... getting some exercise. You start to loosen up and inevitably an idea hits you. Now you have to "pull over" and slam everything into "park" to "fire up the machine". You hit your computer, load the recording software, initiate a new session, connect necessary cables and patch cords, place mics (unless you are recording direct), check recording levels, add a pinch of the necessary reverb or delay that you desire, and then try to get back to that magical moment of inspiration. I usually just fire everything up before I start noodling as I have lost many a spontaneous inspirational moment by inadvertently cooling off during the setting up process. It's better just to keep the motor running in case a couple of those surviving brain cells should strike up a conversation. Trash time is always fun because you are just messing around, loosening up, with no intentional direction. I wonder, how many gems have been uncovered on Trash Day? I guess that's why people love garage sales. You never know!
This little sonic mess was inspired by the Talking Heads. David Byrne had a unique, in your face way of coming at ya. This is me attempting that shy approach!
Trash Day music and lyrics by J. R. Rothrock 7/4/2026
Everybody wants a front-row seat…
… while those in the back row… need food to eat!
We chase mirages, illusions of the heat…
… when only truth can make the soul complete.
Every truth is shaped by time and space...
… but wisdom walks at a slower pace.
Every answer could save another brother…
… but every question just creates another!

“Numero Uno” … is a lonely stance…
‘cause pride and wisdom… rarely dance!
We chase tomorrow… dragging yesterday.
We keep on running… though we’ve lost our way!
*************************************************************
“Self” and “Selfless” … are at total war!
The greedy only ask for more!
Love is never keeping score.
Redemption lies on the killing floor!
Love sees beauty where the world is blind
Though out of sight, you’re never out of mind
But you reap the seeds that you have sown…
If you’re “out of mind”, it might be your own!
