Trash Day
music by J. R. Rothrock
Sometimes you sit down in the studio with the intent of just "working out"... getting some exercise. You start to loosen up and inevitably an idea hits you. Now you have to slam everything into "park" and fire up the machine. You hit your computer, load the recording software, initiate a new session, connect necessary cables and patch cords, place mics (unless you are recording direct), check levels, add a pinch of the necessary reverb or delay that you need, and then try to get back to that magical moment of inspiration. I usually just fire everything up before I start noodling as I have lost many a spontaneous inspirational moment by inadvertently cooling off during the setting up process. It's better just to keep the motor running in case a couple of those surviving brain cells should trike up a conversation. Trash time is always fun because you are just running around, loosening up, with no intentional direction. I wonder, how many gems have been discovered on Trash Day? I guess that's why people love garage sales. You never know!
This little sonic mess was inspired by the Talking Heads. David Byrne had a unique, in your face way of coming at ya. This is me attempting that shy approach!
