Laws were in place, but we could not abide by them. We were a mess, without a moral compass, and on a certain path of self-destruction. We ran up a tab that could not be paid. The only solution short of destroying everything and starting over was for our maker, the creator of everything, to come to us in a manner we could understand. He did. He explained and demonstrated to us the simple secrets of life. Many did not believe, and he was sentenced to death. As His sentence was being carried out, he claimed all our misdeeds as his, and in doing so, our iniquities died along with Him. The tab was paid. He signed the check by coming back to life, witnessed by more than 500 people, proof that He was indeed God. We are the Crown of His Creation, and He would suffer a human death to reclaim us as His.
This is His song, straight up. Thank you, Jesus. I am not worthy except in your eyes.

“The Ascension” words and music by JRRothrock 1999
The Author of Creation sent a message, bold and fresh…
... our directions for salvation, delivered in the flesh.
With gentle words and manner, He spoke of love and truth.
And when the truth is all that matters, those in doubt require proof!
“I will walk upon the waters, heal the lame, the blind will see.
Out of dearth, I’ll feed the masses, preach against unjust decree.
I will render wine from water, but for your eternity…
I’ve been sent here by The Father…. Won’t you rise and follow me?!”
“You cannot be ‘The Son of God’”, denounced the Pharisees.
“Your sermon’s filled with brazen lies, and bold-faced blasphemies!”
So, they threatened all who followed Him, and as history has shown…
... that one-by-one, all turned away, until He was all alone.
Pilate spoke, and He was led, a crown of thorns upon His head.
They whipped Him raw with studded strap.
Heaved a massive cross upon His back.
In His face, they spat and swore.
Three times He fell to rise once more.
No mortal man could bear such cost…
They crushed and nailed Him to the Cross!
Mutilated… body threshed… pounding spikes… ripping flesh…
searing thirst… salted cloth… caving chest… choking froth…
stabbing thrust… piercing sword… forsaken soul cries to the Lord… (“Abba…?”)
blood red flow… emptied vein… innocence in eyes of pain…
an anguished cry… as hours passed… essence ebbed…a breath his last.
the deed is done… all fades to grey… as drop by drop…He slipped away!
His lifeless body wrapped up and sealed within a tomb.
Soldiers stood the night watch so that no one dared exhume.
Then the crown in all of time, when hope would rearrange…
... and there, upon a cold stone slab, the rules of death would change!
A single tear rolls to the side. A shallow breath and then…
... a heart that once was quiet and stilled began to beat again!
Again!
Again!
Again!
