“True love” is a very elusive concept. It is a feeling, a connection between two souls, unlike anything else in life. One would think that for “true love” to exist, it would require the complete removal of all walls, total absolute trust, nurturing based on complete give and take, the willingness to sacrifice “yours” for “theirs”, a hunger and desire for that person above all others, etc. etc. I suppose on rare occasions, it is possible that two souls connect and that connection could be instantaneous and last forever-more, or so the “romantics” would have us believe. If you are fortunate enough to find it, squeeze it! Never let it go. Some people never find it. Some have it and don’t know it. Some have it and lose it. Sometimes the electricity flows in only one direction. Sometimes, everything is there except for that all-important “cosmic timing” between the two lives. This is one man’s story.

When I was a little boy, my life, simple and sweet.
Nestled in my family’s home, my world was so complete.
Every day a happy one… on little dancing feet
… until the day she moved to town and settled on my street!
And in one second, there she stood. Oh, boy! There goes the neighborhood!
I looked at her, she looked at me. My heart burst into flame.
The first time I looked in her eyes, I discovered butterflies.
My world began to spin for her and has never been the same.
Childhood’s confusing time goes flying by too fast!
A word or two can change the rhyme, sand through an hourglass.
Lessons that we learn in life can cut like a knife!
Too soon, the days slip into months, and months roll into years.
While living at the “speed of life”, some memories disappear.
Until one day, by simple chance, I saw her at the prom.
And though each held another’s hand, it hit me like a bomb!
But late that night, the seeds were sewn. I saw her crying all alone
... and once again, our fates collide, and I was by her side…
… to lend an ear and comfort her. Clouds parting in the skies.
Her tears gave way to stars above, twinkling in her eyes.
We talked, and laughed, and held each other for a song or two.
Just when it seemed that love could start, life, once again, pulled us apart!
As surely as day turns to night, this time again would not be right!

The years would pass, but as you guessed, our paths would cross again.
This time it would be different. This time, "love" would win!
’Cause this time I would speak my mind, and I would let her know
... I’d never let her leave again! I’d never let her go!!!
But as I fumbled for my words, I heard a child speak
… asking, “Mommy…who is that man?” My knees became so weak.
I forced an unconvincing smile and said I had to run.
I hugged her for the last time. She’d finally found “the one”.
I turned and hurried down the street, knowing the dream was done!
But how could I be sad today? Sometimes life just turns out that way.
Why should I be feeling bad when she has what I wish I had?!
How could I be sad today? That’s just the way it goes.
Some love just isn’t meant to be. Just why? Nobody knows!
