Inspiration
Art & Lyrics
We all need inspiration to move forward in life… an emotional lift, shove, or kick in the pants to help us to "get a move on". Inspiration can come from any direction and have multiple sources. I am often inspired by nature and other people. Human deeds of courage, generosity, talent, love, and kindness can all be inspiring. Victories can seem sweeter and failures, less painful when there is someone to share them with. Otherwise, it is like the proverbial tree that falls in the woods; does it even make a sound? And, if so, do we care?
*This recording is from an early mix. It was not intended to be the finished product. I had just begun to develop the parts, and the plan was for detailed refinement of the guitar parts. I write with a structured plan in mind, but play and record spontaneously. I will have the song in my head, and then I let it fly. Often, you can find "the pocket" for an extended period and then, during a recording, have a split-second lapse in concentration and hit a sour note. Focus is paramount. Sometimes there are a few rough patches that I later go in and clean up, or “overdub”. I have graduated through 6 different recording platforms since I began composing and recording my original music. I started with a 4-track cassette and have progressed to Pro Tools 12. At some point, while upgrading and moving recorded tracks between platforms, I lost the main multi-track recording for this song and only had this "in progress" mixed-down 2-track version. The EQ is a bit ice-picky, but at least I have this left to share! This has happened to me more than once, and it leaves you feeling like you lost a child. Ok... that may be a bit over the top. You get my drift.

Inspiration
words & music by Jeff Rothrock 4/16/1999
Wake up, Darlin’, so you can hear these rhymes that I’ve…
…been howlin’ at the stars and moon!
Think I’ve got a new tune, but I don’t know which way to fly…
Need to gaze into your eyes real soon!
What is this thing you’ve got about you?
You know I’ve gotta have it all the time!
It’s “something”… I can’t put my finger on it...
...but you sure put the rhythm to the rhyme!
Back to the story—My, but you’re an inspiration!
In darkness, you’re my candlelight!
You know, I saw that "twinkle" in your eye again this morning…
... a HOT time in the old town tonight!
(Oh… and that’s alright!)
What is this thing you’ve got about you?
You know I’ve gotta have it all the time!
It’s “something”; I can’t put my finger on it…
... but you sure put the rhythm to the rhyme!
You know I’d LOVE to put my finger on it!
You know I’ve gotta have you all the time!
When I first saw you, didn’t know just what I’d found… (in you.)
Feet planted firmly, but you spun me right around… (and ‘round.)
Ducked in the shadows, tried to slowly walk away… (from you.)
You cast your spell and I was totally blown away!
What is this thing you have about you?
You know I’ve got to have it all the time!
It’s “something”; I can’t put my finger on it…
... but you sure put that rhythm to the rhyme!

Everything’s a miracle… yet everything is planned…
…an unspoken language we cannot hear or understand…
Measured by infinity… expanding to forever…
…endless possibilities, yet, here we are… together…
