Blue Is Her Color

"The blues". This music is in ALL of us. Call it a BLUE gene. We all have the blues from time to time. Some have lived it, some are still living it, and most can feel it. I love the blues in all forms. You name it... Delta blues, Chicago blues, electric blues, country blues, Boogie-woogie, or blues rock, you can count me in. The Blues have a direct extension/reflection/connection to your soul. A blues song can be recognized almost from the first note. It is so fun to play, and I couldn't neglect this category in my writing. I don't often have the blues, but I can truly feel it, so, jumping in, I wrote a fun, tongue-in-cheek, Boogie-woogie song...'cause I love to boogie. "Blue" blues with a happy ending. Take your shoes off. Tap your toes. That's what they're for!

‘Scuse me! Hey, there! Young lady?! I saw you passing by my way.
Now, I don’t mean to be so forward… but if I don’t speak, you'll walk away!
Where are you headed on this rainy afternoon? You sure could brighten up my day!
Now, I’m not proposing nothin’ fancy, 'cause, jeez, we haven’t even met.
And I know the deck is stacked against me, out here, standing in the wet…
…but for just one minute of your lifetime, I’ll tell you exactly what you get! Oh yeah!
Can we slip into Johnny’s Tavern… have a friendly drink uptown…
…where it won’t seem so peculiar… and feel like I just flagged you down?
If we could talk nice and easy… maybe, you’ll see what I see…
…and that might buy me some time for pretty you and lonely me.
There is some value in this diamond-in-the-rough that you have found…
Yeah, I know it may be awkward… jus' hoping you might stick around!
Well, the lady sipped a glass of wine, and I had a couple beers.
Well, I started feelin’ way too fine…and too happy to be here!
And when I’m loose, I talk too freely… and spilled my entire game.
And when I realized that I said too much, it was too late to reclaim!
Honey, I don’t know your name, or how to get in touch with you…
“Here, I’ll write it on this napkin…”. What’s that say? Officer Who!!!???

Oh…my…. look at the time! I really must be on my way!
But we got hitched that very afternoon… with no vows for me to say.
Didn’t need no ring or church bells… no tuxedos or bouquet.
She slapped on a pair of handcuffs, and, in her squad car, we sped away!
She asked me, “What’s your hurry? You asked me for a little 'time’.
…and that’s just what you will get today! I’m guessing… 5 to 9!!!”

Well, the years have passed… I’ve changed my ways. Incarceration’s through!
I was "bent" before I met her; she reformed me to be true.
She confirmed some dreams I was guessing, and taught me things I never knew…
Being caught was such a blessing. Hope the lesson’s never through!
We'll share some "bad behavior"… before my parole review! : ))
Oh, how I love my lady in blue!
