From the recording The Last Flight Of An Eagle
The American bald eagle, to me, is one of the most majestic and beautiful of all birds and one of the most beautiful of all creatures on the planet. If you have ever watched an eagle soaring in the wind, you’ll agree, it is impressive and mesmerizing. This song was written to paint a mental image of a proud and majestic but aging bird conducting a last aerial survey of his kingdom as he makes his terminal flight to what will be his final resting place. I have always wondered what happens to birds when they die. You rarely see a bird that has stopped living other than through an obvious bird accident or attack. I am reaching for more with this story. Please close your eyes and be uplifted.

The Last Flight Of An Eagle words & music JRRothrock 4/8/2005
What is the worth of a sunrise… when there’ve been so many sunrises before?
A value that cannot be measured… on a great bird’s last sunrise to soar!
10,000 days have left him weathered and grey…endless miles he has soared on the wind.
But on this day, he hears nature’s last calling. Oh, how his beautiful feathers have thinned.
For one final time, he’ll buzz over the treetops… and glide along the banks of the stream.
For one last aerial view of his kingdom… as he chases his final sunbeam.
With a last painful spread of his once mighty wings, and a “whoosh” he lifts off to the skies.
The most majestic of birds… flies up and away…and off into the distance… to die.
Take me home…
…home, all the way.
So that I can be new again…begin again…
…new again… begin again… born again…and fly!
…new again… begin again… born again… and fly!
…new again…. begin again… born again…and fly!
With a last painful spread of his once mighty wings, and a “whoosh”…
…he pushes up through the skies.
The most majestic of birds… flies up and away…and off into the distance to die.
With waning strength, he dives through the valley…
…a scream of triumph from this creature so proud…
…and banks hard away from the cliffside… disappearing into the clouds…
…Fly away…
…fly away…
…fly away…
…fly away…
…fly away…
